6. Ice Breaker: What gave you the best laugh you’ve had recently? 7. Public Safety Renewal Levy Public Information Officer Kelsey Anderson gave a presentation on the upcoming public safety renewal
levy. Library Director Bernard commented that the partnership between the police department and the library is essential to keeping our patrons safe. More information about the levy can be found on the city website, or by contacting Kelsey.
8. Director’s Report
Holds Lockers: Library Director Bernard mentioned the successful grand opening for our Holds Locker Opening. This new contactless feature in the library lobby allows patrons access to their holds an hour before the lobby opens. Made possible through ARPA funding, TPL will be collecting data for 2 years to
share with WCCLS.
Opportunity Café: Our new Opportunity Café vendor is Michelle Cruz. Her business is named Chilita’s
and will be offering rotating seasonal items and pastries drawn from her Mexican heritage like tamales,
pozole, conchas, and flan.
Teammates and Volunteers: Jade Hope resigned from her on-call Library Assistant position in
Circulation to accept a full-time Library Assistant 2 position in Circulation at the Happy Valley library.
Trainings: Members of the Library Person-In-Charge team attended a half-day Library Leaders’ Safety
Summit to learn about how to provide physically and emotionally safer and more secure environments for staff and patrons.
Library community engagement: We signed 279 new patrons up for new library cards this month, in the Library and out in the community at Rose City Comic Con and El Tigre Fest.
Library accomplishments: Tech Services cataloged a unique and complex board game, Wingspan. The circulation team has moved the Request to Fill (RTF) process from paper to iPad only, helping the Library lessen its environmental impact by 11 reams of paper each year. Board Chair Bogert remembered from
her time volunteering in the Library how much paper the RTF procedure has used, and commented that the iPads were a plus. Library Director Bernard concluded by thanking Board Member Ristau for reading the board’s statement of support during the proclamation for Banned Books Week at the City Council
meeting on September 26th.
