PRESENTATION FROM KIM EZELL:
Day to day: meetings, convening groups of people to make decisions
Policy around electrical outlets discussed today (currently no cohesive policies)--giving houseless
members access to electrical outlets
Reducing homelessness is a council goal
Looking for three outcomes: increase transitional housing, secure wrap around services, city support to
the business community to offset impacts
Previously had laws prohibiting people from sleeping outside–unconstitutional, instead adopted time
place and manner ordinance
Providing tenant protections to prevent houslessness in the first place
1M dollar grant to family promise of tualatin valley to purchase former quality inn
Safe lots: putting together parking lots for people living in vehicles, people connected to case worker
Storage units for houseless to leave things as there is a daytime no camping
Time: 7pm-9am Place: not allowed to camp in city parks, parking lots, streets downtown, but are
allowed around library, public works city hall, distance from schools, freeways, etc Manner: general
common courtesy rules to the environment, changed law that allows for camping stoves
Met with houseless community service providers to meet rules, some tensions exist trying to make all
community members heard
Wrap around services: anything from helping someone set up first months rent, to mental health,
addiction, medication support–generally supporting
WHAT CAN WE DO:
Drives for family promise (always looking for food, diapers, general mens clothing, clothing of all sizes)
Note to be in contact with organizations prior to drives to see what is most needed
