Celebrate Your Freedom to Read
Banned Books Week is an annual celebration of our Freedom to
Read and the value of free, open access to information. It honors
the idea that each person has the right to choose what they read.
Tigard Public Library stands by our commitment to intellectual
freedom as a part of our pledge to be a community hub for
knowledge and enrichment where everyone feels welcome. You
can display your freedom to read when you pick up a free vinyl
sticker celebrating intellectual freedom starting October 1, while
supplies last. We invite you to enjoy in this celebration by learning
about intellectual freedom and reading any book you choose! If
you need a suggestion, here’s a list of frequently challenged
books.
Tigard Public Library, WCCLS Celebrate New
Way to Access Materials
Tigard Public Library has partnered with Washington County
Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) to bring no-contact holds
pickup lockers to the Tigard community. Join us for a ribbon cutting
to celebrate our progress on Tuesday, October 3 at 5 PM, featuring
Tigard Mayor Heidi Lueb and other dignitaries.
Light refreshments will follow.
The two-year pilot project will allow Library patrons to place their
holds online or by phone, then pick up their books, movies, or other
materials just inside the Library lobby. Learn more.
Visit Us at El Tigre Fest!
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with us at the City of Tigard's
second annual El Tigre Fest on Saturday, October 7 at Cook Park.
Visit the library booth 12-6 PM in the Kid Zone for free books,
library card sign-up, and selfies with GoGo, the library's tiger
mascot. El Tigre Fest is a family-friendly cultural event with
authentic Latin American food, arts & crafts, dancing, live music,
and children's activities.
There's still time to get involved as a volunteer!
Visit Chilita's- Coming Soon to the
Opportunity Café
The City of Tigard has selected Michelle Cruz as the next
entrepreneur-in-residence at the Tigard Public Library’s Opportunity
Café business incubator. Ms. Cruz's café Chilita's was selected due
to her restaurant operations experience and menu offerings. This is
the first time she’ll have an opportunity to run her own café.
