The crash happened on SW Pacific Highway near SW Pfaffle Street at 7:35 PM on Thursday, May 11th. Witnesses reported a truck went into oncoming traffic and caused a crash that involved four cars and a motorcycle. Three people were taken to the hospital, including two with serious injuries. Sadly, one of those people was pronounced dead at the hospital. She has been identified as Luigina Elmer, an 81- year-old from King City. The driver who investigators believe caused the crash has been identified as Grant Thomas, a 43-year-old from Hillsboro. He was arrested on scene and is in the Washington County Jail facing charges including manslaughter, DUII, assault, reckless driving and criminal mischief. The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) responded to the crash scene and is leading the investigation. CART is a multi-agency team of specially trained law enforcement officers from the Sheriff's Office, local police departments and the Washington County District Attorney's Office. The team investigators and reconstructs traffic crashes that may result in the prosecution of felony assault or manslaughter charges. The team can also assist with diagramming crime scenes.
