DRIVER CHARGED IN DEADLY CRASH
A man is facing several charges, including manslaughter, after investigators believe
he caused a deadly head-on crash.
The crash happened on SW Pacific Highway near SW Pfaffle Street at 7:35 PM on
Thursday, May 11th. Witnesses reported a truck went into oncoming traffic and
caused a crash that involved four cars and a motorcycle. Three people were taken
to the hospital, including two with serious injuries. Sadly, one of those people was
pronounced dead at the hospital. She has been identified as Luigina Elmer, an 81-
year-old from King City.
The driver who investigators believe caused the crash has been identified as Grant
Thomas, a 43-year-old from Hillsboro. He was arrested on scene and is in the
Washington County Jail facing charges including manslaughter, DUII, assault,
reckless driving and criminal mischief.
The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) responded to
the crash scene and is leading the investigation. CART is a multi-agency team of
specially trained law enforcement officers from the Sheriff's Office, local police
departments and the Washington County District Attorney's Office. The team
investigators and reconstructs traffic crashes that may result in the prosecution of
felony assault or manslaughter charges. The team can also assist with diagramming
crime scenes. We'd like to thank them for their assistance in this investigation.
