Tigard Public Library Mourns the Loss of Kari Kunst The Tigard Public Library has lost a beloved colleague and friend. In the early hours of January 9, Kari Kunst passed away while sleeping, due to heart failure. Kari first joined the team at the Tigard Public Library in 2015 as a librarian, and most recently served as Youth Services Supervisor for the past three years. You may have met Kari at an outdoor or virtual storytime, while giving book recommendations at the children’s desk, or serving lunch this past summer. Kari was awarded Employee of the Month last fall for their hard work setting up a teen intern program and hosting a summer free food site at the library, both programs that began for the first time in 2022. Kari’s work as a thoughtful librarian and a steady leader has made a mark, and will have a lasting impact on the Tigard community. Even more so, however, Kari will be remembered as a personable, irreverent colleague. Kari always had a friendly greeting, a dismissive approach to formalities, and a wacky story to tell. Kari’s converse sneakers and dry sense of humor are seared into our hearts. Kari will be greatly missed.
