NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH
September 2022
WHEREAS, "National Preparedness Month"creates an important opportunity for every
resident and employee of the City of Tigard to prepare their home, business and the
community for any type of emergency, including natural disasters or catastrophe; and
WHEREAS, the Oregon Department of Emergency Management encourages every
community member to take active steps to protect their family and neighbors from disasters
and emergencies that could happen at any time; and
WHEREAS, disasters don't wait for us to be ready so Tigardians are encouraged to make
and practice an emergency plan that outlines what to do before, during and after an
emergency, talk with your family, neighbors and friends about the plan; and
WHEREAS,the City of Tigard acknowledges the increased frequency of extreme weather
events as a result of our changing climate, which includes flooding, heat, and snow and ice;
the increased frequency and severity of natural disasters further necessitates advanced
planning and preparedness by the city, its community members, and business owners; and
WHEREAS, every resident should pack an emergency kit with two weeks'worth of food,
water, supplies and necessities like medications,for every human and pet in their care, as
well as copies of important documents and phone chargers as part of their disaster
preparedness kit; and
WHEREAS, emergency preparedness is the responsibility of every resident and all are
I urged to make preparedness a priority and work together as a team to ensure that
individuals, families, and the community are prepared for disasters and emergencies of any
type; and
I WHEREAS, emergency preparedness for vulnerable and frontline populations, should be at
the forefront of emergency planning efforts.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City of Tigard City Council does hereby
proclaim the month of September 2022 as
NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH
in Tigard, Oregon and encourage residents and businesses to develop their own emergency
preparedness plan and work together to build a more prepared and resilient community.
