Julie Drinkwater From: UB Online Sent: Thursday, June 9, 2022 8:35 AM To: Jordan Toews Cc: #Building Permit Technicians; Ed Toews;Jordan Subject: RE: Meter Fixture Worksheet Follow Up Flag: Follow up Flag Status: Completed Categories: Julie Good Morning Jordan, The address of 12183 SW Plantation Ter(previously 13825 SW 121'Ave) has been in existence with the city since at least 1997 and has always had a 5/8 inch meter. When the additional houses around 12183 were built, the meter size at 12183 did not change, though it should have. Since there was an existing meter there was no additional plan reviews regarding meter increases. The rules have now changed which means the new additions/remodels will require the meter size to be increased from 5/8 inch to one (1) inch. Learn why this is important Caution! This message was sent from outside your organization. Good Afternoon, 1 I am working on resolving current permits in progress on my property and I am not satisfied that this water meter question has been fully resolved. I was looking at the permit application this question is related to (ARU -- 12185 SW Plantation Ter) on the City permits system online and it appears that the solution that has been chosen by the city is to deny our final and C of 0 unless we upgrade our meter. Our last email on the subject of the water meter appears to have been left unanswered, or at least I did not receive the response. I have included our comments on this issue below, as we previously sent them on December 14, 2020. This reiterates our position that an error that occurred in 2016 between the City and the Property Developer should not require us to pay$25,000 to resolve. We are willing to discuss and hopefully reach an agreement, but the water connection for this home was paid for by the developer and, as our fixture calculation sheet shows, the current proposed work does not change the required service size. The existing fixture count requires 1", without any of our proposed changes, so this should have been addressed during the permit process for the development when a new meter for the home was installed. Please provide some feedback on our comments regarding this issue so we can work on determining a satisfactory resolution. I do not have any follow up information in my received emails from the utilities division regarding items 5 and 6 in the list from our earlier email below. Thank you, Jordan Content below was sent by Ed Toews as part of an email on Dec. 14, 2020 Here is what we know about the meter: 1. The changes we are making should not have triggered a meter size increase. However, 2. The existing meter is registered as 5/8"and the house, as it was when we purchased the property, requires a 1" meter—two sizes larger. 3. A technician came to site very promptly and confirmed the physical meter is 5/8"and this is not just a documentation error 4. The meter was installed new in 2016 when the original meter for this house was re-assigned to one of the new houses added to the property. The new meter should have been sized appropriately at the time 5. The technician who came to site informed us that the utilities department will be contacting us once they determine what is required to correct the existing issue 6. We have not heard anything from the utilities department(copied on emails mentioning this issue)so assume they have discovered some complications related to this issue or are seeking an option to help us out with this. We are requesting Public Works to confirm the meter size. 2 At this time, the meter will need to be upgraded to a one inch meter whether the addition continues or not.
