At our last meeting, an inquiry was made if patrons could donate items for the Library of
Things (LOT).We cannot accept donated items for our LOT because it is a carefully curated
collection and requires extra resources to process and maintain. Instead, patrons can
donate funds that would go towards the purchase of LOT items.
5. ICE BREAKER
This evening the Board was asked, "If you were given two minutes to give a speech on
anything, what would your topic be?" There was quite the variety of responses.

6. MEET THE TEAM:JACK BAUR, SENIOR LIBRARIAN-ADULT SERVICES
Jack Baur is a Senior Librarian and started working at the Tigard Public Library on April 29,
2021. He joined us from Berkeley where he was a Team Services Librarian. Jack's primary
focus at TPL is technology. He leads our Computer Troubleshooters group and provides
tech projects and programs. The 1:1 tech help he provides to our patrons encompasses
his passions for introducing new users to the world of technology. Jack has been
instrumental in getting our circulating Chromebook collection (Borrow-a-Laptop) up and
running. We now have eleven Chromebooks and Hotspots available for patrons to check-
out. This project helps meet our Strategic Plan Objective E of bridging the gap to
technology access, tools, and support by allowing patrons to have internet access at
home. Jack also mentioned our new in-library use Chromebooks. Patrons can use a
Chromebook in the library for video interviews, online courses, and other opportunities
that require technology.
7. PREPARATIONS FOR JOINT CITY COUNCIL/LIBRARY BOARD MEETING
The Board continued planning for their presentation to the City Council, scheduled for
Tuesday, April 19, 2022. Library Board Member Candice Coleman will create a PowerPoint
slide show as background to speaking points. The order of the presentation will start with
Chair Mary Bogert making introductions; Candice Coleman will speak on library services
happening outside the library; Board Members Kate Ristau and Elena Knepprath will
address happenings inside the library; and Board Member Alternate Helen Allen will finish
up with things that go home with patrons.
S. DIRECTORS REPORT
Library Director Halsted Bernard presented the Director's Report, which contained
updates on library services and programs. She noted that two years ago almost to the day
we made the decision to close the Library due to the coronavirus pandemic. So much has
transpired since then.
Of note:
Starting Saturday, March 12, 2022, all patrons, employees, and volunteers will no longer
be required to wear masks inside the Library. All other safety protocols—keeping at least
6' of physical distance, increased HVAC air flow, modified room capacities—remain in
place. We will continue to encourage and support voluntary mask wearing for patrons,
employees, and volunteers who choose to wear face coverings to protect themselves.
Our Bilingual Youth Services Librarian, Lindsay Delaney, resigned. We have started the
recruitment process for her replacement. Application period for Bilingual (Spanish/English)
Youth Services Librarian closes on April 3.
Tax Season is in full swing. AARP team prepared taxes for 172 people. AARP
appointments are being offered through Tuesday, April 12, 2022.

"Blind Date with a Book" was enormously popular. As of 2/27, 120 books on the record
set left the building since the beginning of February.
As a Leadership Tigard service project, Jeanne Peloquin and Stephanie Milbrodt worked
with Hope Pollard (Community Development) to begin planning an ID Drive here at the
library, serving residents experiencing houselessness, older residents, low-income
community members, and others who have difficulty getting a state-issued ID.
Library teammates participated in the Black History Month DEI Book Club, discussing
"You Are Your Best Thing: Vulnerability, Shame Resilience, and the Black Experience"
edited by Tarana Burke and Brene Brown, and in the Black History Month speaker series
with Trainer Tyra.
