Even at the lightest gauge available,the self tapping screws proposed (1/4"diameter),would be adequate.Since the connection is into a 1/4"wall tube, it is clear that the connections are"OK'. Other sign to sign connection show a bolted connection with machine bolts.The bolts are in more quantity,and larger than the self tapping screws and are therefore"OK"by inspection.
