Library Landscaping Takes Shape After Months of Work After an eventful four months of weeding, scraping, planting, and watering, the Library Landscaping Team finished the last planting session of the season in October! Planning for the project began in March 2020 with the assemblage of the Library Landscaping Team, which included an Oregon State University Master GardenerTM. The project picked back up in February 2021 when a team of staff assembled to discuss plant purchasing, weed removal, and planting timelines. Volunteers joined the fun in April 2021 when the library hosted its first of two weeding parties. In June, the city's Public Works Team scraped the front of the library to help with weed removal and spread mulch to prep for planting. Several library staff members drove to three different nurseries to pick up the nearly 500 plants purchased. In mid-June, over 15 volunteers helped dig and plant over the course of three planting parties. June, July, and August brought record breaking heat to the Pacific Northwest. Over 20 library volunteers watered the front landscape every morning to ensure the plants survived until we were able to install the dripline. September 2021 proved to be busy with the successful installation of the dripline, the installation of the pea gravel staff walk-way, the purchase of the final round of plants, and the placement of boulders for the rock garden (to be completed in 2022). In early October, the library hosted its final Planting Party of the season with the help of five volunteers. The Library Landscaping Project is completed until Spring, when the team will reconvene to discuss updates. The project could not have been completed without the help of city staff and volunteers.
