11/19/2021 - Joint News Release: Burglary, Carjacking, Pursuit Crosses Tri-County Metro Area • Tigard Police Department PRESS RELEASE 13125 SW Hall Boulevard, Tigard, Oregon 97223 • www.tigard-or.gov/police FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE I November 19, 2021 JOINT NEWS RELEASE: BURGLARY, CARJACKING, PURSUIT CROSSES TRI-COUNTY METRO AREA (11/19/21): Several agencies are investigating after an early-morning burglary, carjacking and pursuit that crossed jurisdictions across the tri-county area. It began just after 7 AM today when Tigard Police officers were alerted to the burglary of a T-Mobile store at 11940 SW Pacific Highway. The suspect left the area in a car officers later learned was stolen and continued driving into Lake Oswego. Officers with the Lake Oswego Police Department learned the suspect was driving down Terwilliger Blvd. toward State Street (Highway 43), and spike strips were set up at that intersection in an attempt to slow down or stop the suspect. LOPD officers successfully spiked one of the tires, but the suspect continued to drive southbound on State Street. Ultimately, officers found the car abandoned on Pearcy Street. Containment was set up and a K-9 track was started. While this was underway, a 911 call came in just before 10 AM from a resident in the 900 block of Bickner Street, who reported his car had been stolen. The caller reported that the suspect, who matched the description of the suspect Tigard Police had been pursuing, threatened the caller with a weapon as he was getting into his car to leave his house, forcing him to give up his car. The suspect then left the area in the victim's car, a Chevrolet Spark. From there, the suspect continued toward Oregon City. Patrol officers with the Oregon City Police Department were notified of the carjacking that had just occurred in Lake Oswego and got a description of the stolen car. OCPD officers, with the assistance of West Linn PD, found the car abandoned in the parking lot of a 76 fuel station at 1326 Main Street in Oregon City. Minutes later, the same suspect then stole a Subaru from across the street at the Lithia Subaru dealership at 1404 Main Street. OCPD officers were later able to locate the stolen Subaru in Gladstone and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit spanned along Highway 99E and then into unincorporated areas of Clackamas and Milwaukie before being discontinued. Spike strips were attempted but were not effective.
