Tigard Public Library Board — Minutes
MEETING DATE/TIME: Wednesday,January 9, 2013 7 p.m.
MEETING LOCATION: 13500 SW Hall Blvd., Second Floor Conference Room
1. CALL TO ORDER:
At 7:00 p.m. Dan Snyder called to order the January 9,2013 Tigard Library Board.
2. ROLL CALL
In the absence of both the Chair and Vice-Chair,Dan Snyder called the role and presided over the meeting.
Present at the meeting were: Laura Cadiz, Scott Hancock,Linda Monahan, Cecilia Nguyen and Dan Snyder;
Alternates Stephanie Carter and Katie Harris and Library Director Margaret Barnes. David Burke and John
Storhm were excused.
3. APPROVE MINUTES
The Board reviewed and, after noting several corrections, approved the minutes from the Wednesday,
December 12, 2012 meeting.

4. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS
Add Strategic Plan and Library Survey under Item 8 (Library Operations); switch the order of Item 6 (Policy
Review) and Item 8 (Library Operations).
5. CALL TO THE PUBLIC
Lori Van Deman-Iseri, Cataloging Librarian in Technical Services, joined the meeting as January's staff
guest. Coming to TPL from Condordia, the Tigard Library is her first public library. Van Deman-Iseri
explained what her work entails and passed around cataloging examples. She also discussed the ease of
searching for materials now versus hunting through the old card catalog.

7. LIBRARY BUDGET
Barnes reported that there will be little change to the 2013-2014 Library budget. No lay-offs are planned.
The preliminary budget figures are due the week of January 14.
8. LIBRARY OPERATIONS
Barnes gave a midpoint status update of the Library's Strategic Plan,backing up her talk with a PowerPoint
presentation (attached to minutes). Board members received booklets containing the Strategic Plan information
and some of the statistics were reviewed. The Library's Annual Patron Survey is scheduled to begin Sunday,
February 3 through Saturday,February 16. If Board members wish to volunteer at the survey table,they are to
contact Trish Stormont,Volunteer Coordinator. December 2012 monthly statistics were distributed.
Children's Story Times remain popular while a decline in circulation is still seen. Barnes read a few patron
comments concerning the Thursday closure.

o LIBRARY TRENDS
The article in The New Your Times about more bookstores being closed and libraries being used more
was mentioned.
10. ADJOURN
There being no further business, Snyder adjourned the meeting at 8:07 p.m.
The next meeting of the Tigard Library Board will be Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 7 p.m. in the second
floor Conference Room of the Library, 13500 SW Hall Blvd.,Tigard.
