SITE OBSERVATION REPORT
July 8, 2021
RE: 9900-9914 SW Tigard St
Tigard, OR 97223
Date of Observation: July 7, 2021
Time In: 9:00 am
Time Out: 9:30 am
Attendees: Sam Rediske(M-GROUP Inc)
Greg Stone (Griffith roofing Co.)
PART I- PURPOSE
The purpose of this report is to evaluate the existing roof structure of the above building and
determine the feasibility of adding a roof layer over the top. The proposed additional layer is 3-ply
roofing assembly with maximum weight of 2.0 psf.
PART II- FINDINGS
The structure is an "L" shape industrial structure constructed in the 1970's and has construction
practices of such era. The structure is concrete walls with wood roof system. The roof structural
system comprises of 2x decking clear spanning 6x14 beams at eight feet on center between main
girder lines approximately twenty-four feet apart. Not all roof area was observed, but enough areas
were exposed to determine that the general roof structure system. The roof assembly is as follows:
• 3-Ply roofing 2.0 psf
• 2x decking 4.5 psf
• 6x14 @8'-0"oc 2.0 psf
• Insulation allowance 1.0 psf(Conservative)
• Miscellaneous Allowance 1.0 psf(Conservative)
Total 10.5 psf Conservative
The proposed roof overlay is as follows
• 3-Ply Roofing Membrane 2.0 psf
The total roof dead load (including new overlay) is 12.5 psf
PART III-CALCULATIONS
The roof structure is framed with 2x decking with controlled random layout clear spanning 6x14 beams
@8'-0" OC which in turns spans between girder beams spaced approximately 24 feet apart. For the
calculation purposes we checked the critical members, decking and purlins for code minimum deflection
criteria of L/120 (Total Load Deflection Limit)and L1180 (Live Load Deflection Limit) and for code
minimum snow load of 25psf. Considering the construction era of the buildings and visual observation of
lumber, we assumed the 6x purlins are of today's Select Structural Grade.
The attached calculations pages Cl and C2 shows the adequacy of 2x decking to support the additional
layer of roofing. Calculation sheets C3 and C4 shows the adequacy of existing purlins to support a dead
load of 15psf and snow load of 25psf.

PART IV-SUMMARY
It is our professional opinion the immediate framing (2x decking and purlin)of the existing roof structure
is capable of supporting the additional weight of the proposed additional layer.
PART V-DISCLAIMER
Recommendations and opinions rendered in this report were conducted with the level of care and
professional judgment ordinarily exercised by members of the professional community currently
practicing in this area under similar information, budget and time constraints. No warranty, implied or
expressed is provided on the structural integrity of the structure as a whole.
Please call our office with any questions or comments.
