The Amazing Women Behind Tigard
They promoted schools, advocated for parks, improved the Tigard
Library, excelled in conservation efforts. They were trailblazers,
activists and doers who helped make Tigard what it is today. In
honor of the centennial of the passage of the 19th Amendment
giving women the right to vote, the Tigard Library is featuring these
Tigard stalwarts in a display in the Local History Room.

WHO ' S THAT?
Annie Sprague
Adult Services Supervisor Annie Sprague has been at Tigard for a little over a
year. Her enthusiasm for the library, books, films and other services the library
offers is infectious. She often entertains the staff at morning meetings, sharing
her latest find on pages or on the screen. If you see her on the second floor and
ask her for reading or viewing recommendations, you won't go away empty-
handed. Annie is the creator of the Library's Coffee and Conversation breakfasts.
1.What is your position and what do you do at the library?
As the Adult Services Supervisor, I am the Commander Riker of the
second floor. I do a lot of behind-the-scenes work to ensure that the
second floor runs as smoothly as possible.
2.Why did you want to be a librarian?
I wanted to be a librarian because I love people, and public service
is a personal value. While I was in college, I thought that I wanted
to be a teacher but when the time came, I realized that really was
not what I wanted for my future. Around that time, I was fortunate
enough to get a job in a public library as an assistant and have
never looked back. I got my master's in library science in 2012 and
have been working as a librarian, and now a supervisor ever since.
3.What do you like most about working at the Tigard Library?
That's easy: the people. My colleagues and the patrons.
4. Describe a memorable moment on the job here. Why did it
have an effect on you?
It's too hard to pick just one, so I'll say that the relationships I've
developed while I have been here have had the deepest impact on
me, from the amazing things I have learned from my coworkers to
the questions and support from the patrons.
5.What kind of services or features would you like the library
to offer in the future?
Maybe rooftop holds pick-up once we get flying cars!
6. Can you share a book and a film or TV title that you have
checked out while working here and describe why you would
recommend them?
Anyone who knows me knows that this is my favorite conversation
to have. I would rather ask, "What are you reading?"so that I can

learn more about the person and about books, movies, music and
all of the wonderful things we have! Right now, I am reading Olive,
Again by Elizabeth Strout. This is the sequel to the Pulitzer Prize
winner Olive Kitteridge. I am watching Father Brown, which is a
BBC mystery series. Very cozy, very British. What are you reading?
