Hello,
This narrative letter addresses a brief summary of the modifications made to the MiTek Z4 Submittal Package for the
project"Dartmouth Apartments"due to EOR comments.The modifications are as follows:
• Updated details 4 and 9 on sheet Z4-01 to accurately depict balloon framing condition.
• Removed detail 13 on sheet Z4-01.
• Added elevation and layout graphics for compression posts per specification in EOR's structural documents
for visual aid and coordination.Since the posts are the EOR's design, quantity and size have not been
specified and the structural documents should be referred to for that information.
• Added dimension indicating distance from end of wall to center of rod on post layout graphic.
This revision will override the submittal package previously submitted.
This narrative may not provide an exhaustive list of all changes in the latest revision of the MiTek Z4 Submittal Package
and must be reviewed by the Engineer of Record(EOR). If you have any additional questions or concerns,please feel free

The following Z4 Calculations are provided along with the detail and elevation sheets as a deferred submittal to the tie-
down system specified in the construction documents.These documents have been submitted to the Engineer of
Record and bear their shop drawing stamp as an accepted specification. For evaluation reports please refer to ICC ESR
No.2190 and/or Los Angeles RR No.25623.
EOR shall verify that project demand meets project requirement.
Generic Submittal:
Continuous Rod System(Zone Four):
• Overturning forces are transferred from the structural sheathing to the wood posts.
• Shearwall overturning forces generate tension and compression loads at opposite ends of the shearwall.
• Compression loads accumulate in the wood posts from the top to the bottom level. If the EOR specifies the
compression load Zone Four will include in the design.
• Uplift(tension loads):wood posts push up and are resisted by the bearing plates above.The tension load
specified by the EOR is included as the basis of the Z4 Design.
• Cinch Nuts(CNX)transfer load from the bearing plate to continuous rod per level.
• Tension loads are accumulated in the rod.
• CNX provided perpetual shrinkage compensation.

2.0 CONCLUSIONS
The Cinch Nut'" Shrinkage Compensation Device: Models CNX3, CNX4, CNX5, CNX6, CNX7, CNX8, CNX9, CNX10,
CNX11 and CNX12, described in Sections 2.0 through 7.0 of the evaluation report ESR-2190, complies with the LABC
Chapter 23, and the LARC,and is subjected to the conditions of use described in this supplement.
3.0 CONDITIONS OF USE
The Cinch Nut- Shrinkage Compensation Device: Models CNX3, CNX4, CNX5, CNX6, CNX7, CNX8, CNX9, CNX10,
CNX11 and CNX12 described in this evaluation report supplement must comply with all the following conditions:
• All applicable sections in the evaluation report ESR-2190.
• The design, installation, conditions of use and identification of the Cinch Nut'" Shrinkage Compensation Devices are in

1.0 REPORT PURPOSE AND SCOPE
Purpose:
The purpose of this evaluation report supplement is to indicate that Cinch Nut" Shrinkage Compensation Device: Models
CNX3/CNXO3, CNX4/CNXO4, CNX5/CNXO5, CNX6/CNXO6, CNX7/CNXO7, CNX8/CNXOB, CNX9/CNXO9,
CNX10/CNX010, CNX11/CNXO11 and CNX12/CNX012, described in ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-2190, has also been
evaluated for compliance with Chapter 23 of the code noted below.
Applicable code edition:
■ 2019 California Building Code(CBC)
For evaluation of applicable chapters adopted by the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development
• (OSHPD)and Division of State Architect(DSA),see Sections 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 below.
• 2019 California Residential Code(CRC)
2.0 CONCLUSIONS
2.1 CBC:
The Cinch Nut- Shrinkage Compensation Device: Models CNX3/CNXO3, CNX4/CNXO4, CNX5/CNX05, CNX6/CNXO6,
CNX7/CNXO7, CNX8/CNXOB, CNX9/CNXO9, CNX10/CNXO10, CNX11/CNXO11 and CNX12/CNX012, described in
Sections 2.0 through 7.0 of the evaluation report ESR-2190, complies with CBC Chapter 23, provided the design and
installation are in accordance with the 2018 International Building Code®(IBC)provisions noted in the evaluation report and
the additional requirements of the CBC Chapters 16, 17 and 23,as applicable.
Section 5.4 of the evaluation report must be revised to read as follows:When using the basic allowable stress design load
combinations in accordance with CBC Section 1605.3.1, or the alternative allowable stress design load combinations in
accordance with CBC Section 1605.3.2,allowable loads are not permitted to be increased for wind or earthquake loading.
2.1.1 OSHPD:
OSHPD requirements as indicated in the CBC are beyond the scope of this supplement.
2.1.2 DSA:
DSA requirements as indicated in the CBC are beyond the scope of this supplement.
2.2 CRC:
The Cinch Nuf" Shrinkage Compensation Device: Models CNX3//CNXO3, CNX4/CNX04, CNX5/CNXOS, CNX6/CNX06,
CNX7/CNXO7, CNX8/CNXOB, CNX9/CNXO9, CNX10/CNX010, CNX11/CNXO11 and CNX12/CNXO12, described in
Sections 2.0 through 7.0 of the evaluation report ESR-2190, complies with the CRC Section R301.1.3, provided the design
and installation are in accordance with the 2018 International Residential Code® (IBC) provisions noted in the evaluation
report.
This supplement expires concurrently with the evaluation report,reissued June 2020 and revised November 2020.

CNX10/CNXO10, CNX11/CNXO11 and CNX12/CNX012, described in ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-2190, has also been
evaluated for compliance with the codes noted below.

• 2020 and 2017 Florida Building Code—Residential
• 2.0 CONCLUSIONS
The Cinch Nut"' Shrinkage Compensation Device: Models CNX3/CNXO3, CNX4/CNX04, CNX5/CNX05, CNX6/CNXO6,
CNX7/CNX07, CNX8/CNX08, CNX9/CNX09, CNX10/CNX010, CNX11/CNX011 and CNX12/CNXO12, described in
Sections 2.0 through 7.0 of ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-2190, complies with the Florida Building Code—Building and the
Florida Building Code—Residential,provided the design requirements are determined in accordance with the Florida Building
Code—Building or the Florida Building Code—Residential, as applicable. The installation requirements noted in ICC-ES
evaluation report ESR-2190 for the 2018 and 2015 International Building Code®meet the requirements of the Florida Building
Code—Building or the Florida Building Code—Residential, as applicable,with the following condition:
a) Use of the Cinch Nutn"in contact with preservative-treated and fire-retardant-treated wood is outside the scope of ESR-
2190. Requirements for compliance with Section 2304.10.5 of the Florida Building Code-Building and Section R317.3
of the Florida Building Code—Residential must be as indicated in a current ICC-ES evaluation report issued to the
chemical treatment manufacturer. If the evaluation report does not contain information on the adjustments,the chemical
manufacturer must be contacted for this information.
Use of the Cinch Nut"' Shrinkage Compensation Device: Models CNX3/CNX03, CNX4/CNX03, CNX5/CNXO5,
CNX6/CNXO6, CNX7/CNXO7, CNX8/CNXO8, CNX9iCNXO9, CNX10/CNX010, CNX11/CNX011 and CNX12/CNX012 has
also been found to be in compliance with the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone provisions of the Florida Building Code-Building
and the Florida Building Code—Residential,with the following condition:
a) For connections subject to uplift,the connection must be designed for no less than 700 pounds(3114 N).
For products falling under Florida Rule 61 G20-3,verification that the report holder's quality assurance program is audited by
a quality assurance entity approved by the Florida Building Commission for the type of inspections being conducted is the
responsibility of an approved validation entity(or the code official when the report holder does not possess an approval by the
Commission).
This supplement expires concurrently with the evaluation report,reissued June 2020 and revised November 2020.
