Re: Stormwater Approach
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this memo is to outline the approach to address the City of Tigard and Clean
Water Services requirements for stormwater management of the proposed bleacher cover near
the track and field at Tigard High School.
The Tigard High School Bleacher Project consists of constructing a 30'x 60' gabled roof structure
over bleacher seating that will sit on top of a reinforced concrete pad where asphalt surfacing
currently exists. Additionally, the surrounding existing asphalt will be removed and replaced.
WATER QUALITY
The proposed improvements will include 7,243 square feet of impacted area, and includes the
construction of 327 square feet of new impervious area that will be treated with the existing
downstream 8'x 11'Contech StormFilter vault. The Stormwater Report prepared for the
improvements as part of CUP2017-00006 has already considered this area as existing
impervious area and is included within the 138,886 square feet of impervious area contributing to
the vault.
The remaining 1,800 square feet is the added roof structure and will be treated with a rock gallery
that runs the length of the roof.
This approach is designed using a dry weather storm event totaling 0.36 inches of precipitation
per Clean Water Services'Design and Construction Standards for Sanitary Sewer and Surface
Water Management Section 4.08.2 and 4.08.5. The calculated water quality volume used in the
design of the rock gallery is 54 cubic feet.The proposed rock gallery is designed to completely
contain the water quality volume,which will gradually percolate through the surrounding native
soil or dissipate due to evapotranspiration. A 30"wide rock gallery along the length of the cover at
40%porosity and 1'depth allows for 60 cubic feet of treatment volume within the rock gallery
which is greater than the required volume.
SUMMARY
The proposed bleacher cover improvements at Tigard High School meet the City of Tigard and
Clean Water Services requirements for stormwater management by providing and exceeding the
required amount of treatment volume for the added impervious area.
A
