Tigard Police Arrest Nine Drivers for DUII During Enforcement Campaign
From August 20,2020 through September 7,2020,Tigard Police Officers participated in a High Visibility
Enforcement Campaign.Their focus was on impaired driving, but officers were also on the lookout for
speeding and other violations impacting traffic safety along Tigard roadways.
As a result of these efforts,Tigard officers issued 48 warnings and took the following enforcement actions:
• 9 DUII arrests
2 warrant arrests
• 5 Driving while Suspended citations
• 8 speeding citations
• 4 other citations
Officers who participated in this campaign worked a mix of regular and overtime hours. The overtime was
funded by a High Visibility Enforcement campaign grant, offered by the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) and administered by the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon
Impact. With DUII arrests taking 2-4 hours to process between the traffic stop, sobriety tests to jail transport,
these additional resources allow officers to proactively monitor roads and stop dangerous drivers.
Participation in the HVE enforcement campaign is one of the Tigard Police Department's efforts to improve
safety along our roadways for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers. The campaign typically occurs during the
holidays and other times when impaired driving typically increases.
The Tigard Police Department plans to apply for HVE grants in the future. Find out more information about
the campaign by visiting www.nhtsa.gov.
