Chairman Cohen opened the meeting shortly after 6 : 30 . The
meeting preceded a work session with the City Council . Minutes
of that session were prepared by Cathy Wheatley of the Community
Services Department.
The consultants were present to discuss a modified schedule
for delivery of the marketing study results. Wally stated that
the strategy will be available on May 3 , 1988. The next meeting
with the consultant, to discuss the strategy, will be held on May
10 at 7: 00 P.M. (the task force will meet at 6 : 30) . The meeting
will be in a workshop format to review the report in detail . A
new draft will then be prepared and sent to the task force on May
17 for review. A meeting will then be held to go over the final
report on Tuesday, May 19 at 7:00 P.M. (again, the task force
will meet at 6 : 30) . A final draft will then be prepared for
submittal on May 26. A follow up meeting will be conducted on
Wednesday, June 1 at 7: 00 (task force meets at 6 : 30) where the
consultant presents the final project. A tentative date of June
13 was set for a joint meeting with City Council . The breakfast
meeting for the business community will be held later,
tentatively June 24 .
Wally noted too that the population growth figures have been
revised. The consultant applied the five minute travel area to
the square footage need to arrive at an estimated acreage figure.
Currently 1. 3 million square feet of commercial space is
available within a five minute drive of the area. They project
an achievable growth of 3% per year to a demand of just over 1
million square feet of retail space using 100 acres.
The first portion of the meeting concluded at 6 :15 . The
task force and consultants then met with the City Council .
